The Erhardt family in front of Roseneath Cottage circa 1886.

Roseneath Cottage was built by Michael and Christina Erhardt circa 1862. The house is heritage-listed with the Warwick Council and is the oldest home in Allora.

Constructed of Hoop Pine with Cedar fittings, the house started as a four-room cottage that sat on bedding logs. Verandahs wrap around three sides of the house with the east side built in to give two extra rooms, a change which was probably made in the 1880s.

One of the current outbuildings, a slab hut, now used as an outdoor dining area and barbeque was the Erhardts’ first dwelling, where their eldest son, Joseph, was born.

In 1924 the house was purchased by Albert Stay who raised the house from its original bedding logs to sit on stumps, as it does today. The Stay family happily occupied Roseneath for 75 years.

The present owners, Lynn and Rod Close, bought the house in 1999 and developed the accommodation and gardens into the delightful home away from home it is today.
